Reading at Home
Reading with your child is one of the most important activities that you can do to help your child’s reading success at school.  Remember to log all books read.  We will be working on a different reading strategy in class each week to help your child become a better reader.  This week’s skill is Story Structure.  Ask your child questions about the basic elements:          characters, or who the story is about; setting, or where it takes place; and beginning, middle, and end of the story he or she is reading.

Language Skills:
Noun Review: A noun* is a person place or thing.

Naming Parts (Subjects) of Sentences:  A sentence tells what someone or something does.  The naming part, or subject, tells who or what does the action.

Have your child name the nouns in the following sentences:  Julius liked to twirl around the big chair with  his arms in the air.
Make a rhyme by completing the subject of each sentence with ants or bees.
These _____________crawled on the plants.  These ____________ say please.
